The spirit of excellence was alive at Queen’s Hall on Tuesday, January 28, as students, staff, parents, and other members of the St. François Girls’ College community gathered to celebrate the outstanding achievements of our Little Sisters at the annual Achievement Day ceremony. Under the theme Virtute Vera: Honouring Excellence, the event highlighted the dedication, talent, and perseverance of students who excelled during the 2023-2024 academic year.
Scores of students from Forms 1 through Upper 6 received awards in categories ranging from Form Prize and Progress Prize to Certificates of Excellence for CSEC and CAPE results, as well as Certificates of Participation and Recognition for extra curricular activities.
Hosted by Theatre Arts teacher, Ms. Sarran Clarke, the event featured a welcome address from the College’s Vice President, Ms. Tracy Ellis, and an insightful report on key milestones by the Principal, Mrs. Pasha Seecharan.
Updates ranged from the introduction of new faculty to various morale building activities among students and staff. A heartfelt “Thank You” was also extended to several individuals and entities who supported the school during this period, including the Alumnae Association, NLCB, and several alums, including Heather Murphy ’78, Gillian Roach ’73, and Dr. Astril Webb ’87 for their kind donations.
The most significant highlight of the report, however, was the College’s exam results, with St. François recording an outstanding 96.7% CAPE pass rate and an 87.52% pass rate at the CSEC level.
SFGC achieved a 96.7% CAPE pass rate for the 2023-2024 academic year!
The feature address was delivered by Ms. Arlene Williams, a former teacher, who imparted invaluable wisdom to reinforce the significance of our motto Virtute Vera, “by true strength”. Ms. Williams encouraged the girls to draw on their “true strength” in all areas of their lives to ensure they always embody the spirit of what it means to be a student of St. François Girls’ College. She also took the opportunity to impart some motivational words of encouragement for the SFGC Steel Orchestra set to compete in the Junior Panorama Finals on Sunday, February 2.
Beyond speeches and awards, the event created space for our Little Sisters to show off their talents through a series of performances. The lineup included a captivating rendition of Andra Day’s “Rise Up” performed by the Vocal Ensemble, an entertaining and edifying dramatic presentation by the Theatre Arts group, and a lively performance by the parang group, Las Cantadores de San François, among others.
St. François’ Achievement Day 2025 was a true testament to the St. François Girls’ College legacy of excellence. As we continue to foster a culture of high achievement, we look forward to even greater successes in the future. To our students, staff, and alumnae — “Virtute Vera”, always!
